Contraceptives are preventative methods in which an action or surgery takes place in order to greatly reduce the probability of pregnancies. Contraceptive methods often involve the use of devices that range in sophistication from fairly simple devices, such as condoms, to more complex devices, such as IUDs. However, some contraceptive methods, such as withdrawal and abstinence are simply action-based and require no tools or devices.
